Logo Design for BCSSTA

Logo Design | British Columbia Social Studies Teachers Association (BCSSTA)
Client: BCSSTA / BC Ministry of Education

This branding project for the British Columbia Social Studies Teachers Association (BCSSTA) centers on the transformative power of education, specifically how teachers open the world to their students through knowledge and perspective.

At the heart of the identity is a symbolic icon. A pair of hands represents the teacher, holding open a book. From its pages, a globe emerges, expressing learning as a gateway to global awareness, critical thinking, and connection. The mark is intentionally simple and bold, allowing it to scale effectively while maintaining its meaning across print and digital applications.

The typography reinforces this sense of strength and reliability. A slab serif typeface was chosen for its solid, grounded presence, communicating trust, authority, and an enduring educational foundation. It balances tradition with clarity, reflecting both the legacy and ongoing relevance of social studies education.

The colour palette draws directly from the natural landscape of British Columbia. Deep blues evoke the province’s coastline and waterways, rich greens reference its forests, and warm yellows introduce light, energy, and optimism. Together, these colours create a sense of place while supporting a welcoming and engaging visual identity.

Overall, the brand captures the essential role of educators in shaping informed, thoughtful citizens, positioning BCSSTA as a strong and supportive voice within the teaching community.
